Standard Dentures

The loss of teeth can be a traumatic event that leads to diminished self-confidence, oral hygiene problems and chewing difficulties. Standard dentures have been used throughout human history as a way to “replace” lost teeth.

Standard dentures are a less-than-perfect replacement for natural teeth. However, they have proven to be effective for countless individuals and can be comfortable to wear if a patient has reasonable expectations and recognizes that there definitely will be an adaptation period.

Standard dentures may fit comfortably and chew well, but they’re designed for the average patient who simply wants a good quality denture. Although the range of tooth shapes and colours and choice of materials is not as extensive as our precision denture option, no compromise is made in the denture construction and quality of service.

Need an Upgrade?

Please be aware that patients with a resorbed (shrunken) or an unusual jaw relationship (bite) may require a more personalized denture that utilizes premium materials and precision techniques. Here are symptoms that may indicate the need for a new denture or an upgrade to a precision denture:

• Ongoing pain or sore spots
• The appearance of extra wrinkles around your mouth
• Clicking, whistling, slipping dentures
• Chewing problems
• Slurred speech
• Routine need for denture adhesive and/or pads
• Discomfort with the appearance of your dentures
